Older man rescues frozen tiny bird with his breath

Despite what seems to be general belief, not all birds fly south in the winter looking to escape the cold and settle somewhere nice and warm. Many of our feathered friends actually stay behind and face the cold as good as they can. But it’s now always easy.

When temperatures drop well beyond the freezing point, many of these birds are in serious danger. The poor little bird in the video below was caught off-guard by the frigid winter temperatures and caught itself trapped on the metal piping next to a water heater. The little bird most likely stopped to drink some water but unfortunately its feet got wet from the water and literally froze into the metal pipping. So the birdie was glued down to the pipe and was trapped there.

Fortunately, a kind man by the name of Wilson somehow managed to hear the panicked tweeting coming from the bird, and decided to do something to help her out and save her life. The man started gently blowing warm air on the bird to make sure he won’t hurt her fragile feet. After several minutes, the bird was finally able to move her previously frozen feet!

“On New Year’s morning I noticed a solitary sparrow perched upon the steel fence near the water tank,” Nelson Wilson explained. “It is not uncommon for birds to drink from the heated tank. Apparently this unfortunate bird had gotten its feet wet and, while making its exit, had become frozen to the fence in the prevailing near zero Idaho temperatures.

“First, I attempted to warm the feet of the frightened bird by pressing my palm against both the fence and the birds feet, while also gently restraining the bird’s flapping wings. It then seemed that warming the birds feet with my warm breath would bring quicker success,” the heroic man wrote.

The entire rescue mission was caught on video. Take a look:
