These homemade bread rolls are light, fluffy inside, and lightly golden on the outside. They are made with basic pantry ingredients and simple steps, making them suitable for everyday meals or special occasions. You can serve them with butter, jam, soups, or main dishes.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon dry yeast
  • 250 ml lukewarm water
  • 450 g all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil or melted butter
  • Extra flour for dusting
  • 1 egg, optional for brushing

Instructions

1. Activate the Yeast

In a large bowl, mix lukewarm water, sugar, and dry yeast. Stir and let sit for about 10 minutes until the surface becomes foamy.

2. Prepare the Dough

Gradually add flour and salt to the yeast mixture while stirring. Add oil or melted butter and mix until a soft dough forms. If the dough feels too sticky, add a small amount of flour, but keep it soft.

3. Knead

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for 8 to 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

4. First Rise

Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl. Cover and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

5. Shape the Rolls

Gently press down the risen dough to release air. Divide it into 10 to 12 equal pieces and shape each into a smooth ball. Arrange them on a baking tray lined with parchment paper, leaving space between them.

6. Second Rise

Cover and allow the shaped rolls to rest for 20 to 30 minutes until slightly puffed.

7. Bake

Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Brush the tops with beaten egg if desired. Bake for 18 to 22 minutes until golden brown.

8. Cool

Remove from the oven and brush with melted butter if you prefer a softer crust. Let cool slightly before serving.
