The dog-eating festival that takes place each year in China sparks outrage around the globe. Each year about 10, 000 dogs are butchered to celebrate the summer solstice. People from all over the world have protested against this slaughter, but this retired school teacher in China decided to take some serious action by directly getting involved. She paid more than $1,000 to rescue 100 dogs from the feast. The woman got the dogs herself and took them to an animal sanctuary she runs and which is home to 1,000 other dogs.
