Sweet pittie helps tiny blind friend to explore the world and never leaves his side

For the last four years or so, Blue Dozer – a gentle pit bull – was more than just a loyal friend for his buddy OJ – a 12-year-old dachshund. Old and blind, the senior dog put all his trust in his friend, because he’s been guiding him through the world

Recently, Blue Dozer proved he will never leave his friend’s side, for anything in this world. Sadly for the pair, their owner lost her home and ended up on the streets. Since she couldn’t offered to take care of her dogs, the woman decided to surrender them to a local shelter in Richmond, hoping they’ll find a warm home. Anyway, she begged the staff there to keep them together.

“She said they had been living in her car for a while and she had been through some other personal things recently,” Christie Chipps Peters, director of the Richmond Animal Care and Control explained for The Dodo. “All she wanted was to find them a new home together!”

But Christie and the other volunteers, have all soon realized why the insisted so much for the two dogs to stick together. Since the senior dachshund was completely blind, his 6-year-old pittie wasn’t just his comfort but his seeing eye friend. More, they all got surprised by how caring and gentle Blue is, when it comes to his helpless friend. Therefore, everyone knew it won’t take too long until someone to show interest in these two lovely dogs.

“We don’t see a combination like this very often,” Peters said . “It’s so comical and sweet. Blue is like this super tough muscular guy, then OJ is a teeny tiny dachshund. Seeing them together is super cute. “They’ve been best pals for years, so they have this understanding of sticking by each other. When we’d go outside, it was like OJ was Blue’s little shadow.”

To everyone’s delight, just a couple of days after the pair arrived at the shelter, someone showed up to adopt them, and the things were getting better and better for the two dogs. Obviously, the condition was to adopt them both. Said and done, but then, something really awful happened. Days after the dogs left the shelter to their new home, the poor OJ was found on the side of the road, all by himself. Most likely, he just got dumped by his new owners!

Thankfully, with the help of some kind people, the unbreakable pair was eventually reunited back at the shelter, and this time, they won’t be separated! Even though, their drama is far from ending, one thing is certain, Blue and OJ share a truly remarkable friendship!

“We very much appreciate the outpouring of community support,” the shelter wrote in a statement. “The only thing that matters is these sweet dogs get to stay together — and in the end that’s what we have … We will not be doing anything with OJ and Blue Dozer in the next few days other than snuggling them together.”
