Hero dog risks life to save kittens from fire

It is probably well known that cats and dogs are not getting along very well, but this dog’s spirit of sacrifice for the seek of a litter of kittens goes beyond any imagination. It proves, once again if necessary, what a dog is capable of in order to protect those in need.

A terrier cross named Leo is hailed as a hero after he risked his own life to save four newborn kittens from fire. The little kittens got trapped in a house fire in Melbourne, Australia after the family has eventually manage to escape from the blaze. A 37-year-old mom with her 18-year-old boy and two daughters, 11 and 5, alongside one of their dogs – Barney and the kittens’ mom, have all escaped unharmed.

However, the family’s other dog – Leo, refused to leave the house. Instead, he put his own life on the line to protect the helpless kittens. A gesture that saved their lives. By the time the firefighter crew arrived, the hero dog was passed out with the little kittens underneath him. It was necessary the oxygen mask and heart massage to revive the dog.

“Leo wouldn’t leave the kittens and it nearly cost him his life,” Commander Ken Brown with the Melbourne Fire Department said. “They got him out of the house and successfully resuscitated him. They are just there spending some time now with Leo before they go off duty….Everyone’s fine … we rescued anyone! ”
