VIDEO: Residents of Buffalo, New York rescue birds stuck in ice after a winter storm of historical proportions

Residents of Buffalo, New York aided in the rescue of 16 birds that were trapped in ice along the waterfront of LaSalle Park following a deadly blizzard that struck the area over the weekend.

Seamus Gallivan and Alex McArthur said they wanted to help others in any way they could while the city was immobilized by the historic winter storm, which left them without power for 56 hours as a record 51 inches of snow fell. Gallivan said he was shoveling in the neighborhood and searching for anyone who needed help when he saw a man standing over a gull stuck in a layer of ice at the park where the Niagara River meets Lake Erie
