As part of her MoMA retrospective entitled ‘The Artist is Present’, artist Marina Abramovic shared a minute of silence with each stranger who sat in front of her. Many people wanted to take part in her experiment and the artist shared a connection with all of them, but only one man managed to bring tears to her eyes. His name is Ulay. Marina and Ulay started an intense love affair back in the 70’s, performing out of a van that was also their home. When they decided to end their relationship, the two met in the middle of the Great Wall of China for one last embrace. That was the last time they saw each other.
